This nonprofit land conservation and urban planning organization supports the preservation of open land around the urban core and sustainable neighborhoods with a mix of shops, homes, and jobs near public transit.

Greenbelt Alliance fights for climate change through better land use. The alliances promotes urban planning that creates self-sufficient neighborhoods with accessible public transportation to limit the negative impact of greenhouse gases on the Earth’s climate.

Founded in 1958, Greenbelt Alliance’s mission is to help the community find innovative solutions to growth challenges. From protecting wildlife habitat to saving farms in Santa Clara County, the alliance has addressed land-use issues and discussed smart growth development. By 2035, the Bay Area chapter hopes to protect 3.6 million acres of greenbelt (both natural and agricultural lands), to direct new development in urbanized areas, and to benefit residents across the socioeconomic spectrum.
