The mission of Friends of the North Coast is to honor and preserve the natural and cultural legacy of Santa Cruz County’s North Coast.

Friends of the North Coast seeks to preserve Santa Cruz County's coastline from threats such as development and industrialization of the region. Its volunteers have orchestrated various events over the years, as well as worked with some ongoing causes. These include Gray Whale and Cotoni-Coast Dairies, both of which are at risk for being developed without proper wildlife inventories and other issues that can negatively impact the area’s natural resources.

The group has also hosted teams to plant trees, remove invasive species, throw concerts celebrating the coast’s natural beauty, raised awareness of local wildlife preservation through the local media, and more. Members are active throughout the Santa Cruz region, protecting the coastline. They also attend California Coastal Commission meetings and partner with other groups focused on environmental preservation.
