A 20-year South Lake Tahoe resident and mother of five, Tamara Wallace studied business at Lake Tahoe Community College and is a graduate of UCLA’s Institute for Organizational Management. She says South Lake Tahoe is trying to balance the medical and mental health needs of the community with socio-economic realities—and it has been a struggle during the COVID-19 pandemic.


In 2022, while serving as mayor of South Lake Tahoe, Wallace made an unsuccessful bid for a seat on the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors in the June primary. In the November general election, she won a second term on the South Lake Tahoe City Council.

In a special city council meeting, the council heard public comment on Measure T, which previously banned vacation home rentals (VHRs) in residential neighborhoods before it was deemed unconstitutional in a recent ruling. Ultimately, the council voted 4 to 1 to not appeal the ruling and unanimously voted on a 45-day moratorium on issuing VHR permits in areas where Measure T prohibited them.
