A 20-year South Lake Tahoe resident and mother of five, Tamara Wallace studied business at Lake Tahoe Community College and is a graduate of UCLA’s Institute for Organizational Management. She says South Lake Tahoe is trying to balance the medical and mental health needs of the community with socio-economic realities—and it has been a struggle during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2022, while serving as mayor of South Lake Tahoe, Wallace made an unsuccessful bid for a seat on the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors in the June primary. In the November general election, she won a second term on the South Lake Tahoe City Council.

The City of South Lake Tahoe along with the South Tahoe Parks Foundation announced a generous donation from the Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe. This donation not only benefits the community but will also have a meaningful impact at the new Recreation and Aquatics Center.
The City of South Lake Tahoe City Manager announced the appointment of Jeff Roberson as the new Police Chief beginning on June 7, 2025. Roberson, most recently has been serving as a Police Lieutenant in the Police Support/Detectives Division. He brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the Police Chief role.
On Thursday, the city's planning commission unanimously approved the proposal for an affordable housing project on 3900 and 3908 Lake Tahoe Boulevard, adding to the affordable housing available in South Lake Tahoe.
To provide improved efficiency and customer service throughout the permitting and development review process, the Development Services Department will be going live with entirely new permitting software on Monday, April 14. To prepare for this transition, the Development Services Department front counter will be closed Monday, April 7 through Wednesday, April 9.
In a special city council meeting, the council heard public comment on Measure T, which previously banned vacation home rentals (VHRs) in residential neighborhoods before it was deemed unconstitutional in a recent ruling. Ultimately, the council voted 4 to 1 to not appeal the ruling and unanimously voted on a 45-day moratorium on issuing VHR permits in areas where Measure T prohibited them.
