With 11 historical structures, five museums, and the oldest house in California to care for, the work of the Carmel Mission Foundation is never done.

“The objective is not just to remedy existing deficiencies, but to ensure the preservation of the buildings for future generations,” states the website. The nonprofit’s multi-year, multimillion-dollar campaign will see to structural renovation and rehabilitation, and the restoration of art and historical artifacts dating back to 1568. A U.S. National Historic Landmark, a California State Landmark, and listed in the National Registry of Historic Places, the property has been awarded more than $10 million to support the restoration and preservation needs. The foundation also hosts socials, tours and an annual gala to raise funds. Volunteers are welcome to assist in programs, events, and research.
