VOLUNTEER DONATE

Founded in 1948 by Carmel poet and painter Jeanne D’Orge, originally born in England, the Carl Cherry Center for the Arts houses both a theater and an art gallery that host artistic, educational, and cultural events.

The 50-seat theater stages live concerts, readings, film screenings, panel discussions, and lectures. The gallery’s exhibits and open-studio tours showcase works by up-and-coming artists from the Monterey Bay area and beyond. You can also see five or more artworks at any given time in the sculpture garden.

Additionally, the center houses a permanent collection of more than 600 paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, and illustrated books, as well as memorabilia documenting the early history of Carmel; and a number of philosophy and religious texts; poetry and art books belonging to D’Orge and her husband, Carl Cherry.
