Higher Level, a local cannabis retailer, has opened a new dispensary. It is the first in South Monterey County.

Greenfield held a public input meeting Aug. 26 with around 30 people sharing opinions on what type of recreational activities they would like to see in the city. Input was varied, but residents were vocal.

Six new reserve firefighters have finished onboarding training at Greenfield Fire Department, the city announced. They will be officially sworn in during the Greenfield City Council meeting in September.

Greenfield City Council members have approved a contract to improve sidewalks and accessible parking. Acting Public Works Director John Alves said improvements would include a walkway in front of Cesar Chavez Elementary School and crosswalk wheelchair ramps on El Camino Real.

Mayor Lance Walker said the city of Greenfield should budget three new police officer positions after the council listened to a presentation from Chief of Police Gregory Allen.

“You don’t really feel like you’re home yet,” Mayor Pro Tem Angela Untalon said regarding the city’s lack of welcome signs on Highway 101.

After a planning process that included six public workshops and more than 1,000 surveys, the city is ready to seek state funding for a new recreation center and park project.

Constructed of shipping containers, the new facility allows the Greenfield Fire Department to practice entering and ventilating buildings.
