On Tuesday, Jan. 28, the Truckee Town Council approved the R2SC Community Economic Vitality Action Team's recommendations for Catalyst Projects and authorized staff to negotiate partnerships with selected property owners.

An investment totaling over $9 million is headed towards North Tahoe after a Placer County Board of Supervisors meeting on Jan. 21. That's when the board approved transient occupancy tax funding for seven projects in the Tahoe region of Placer County.
Little Gems of the Sierra, a nonprofit Waldorf-inspired early childhood program, is expanding once again to meet the increasing demand for childcare in the Truckee-Tahoe region. Train stations were the hub for many towns bringing in visitors, guests, freight and everything else the town needed or wanted to export. When the Transcontinental Railroad was completed, there were numerous train stations along the rail line. Only a handful of these stations still exist. Their demise was due to the lack of a sustainable economy and the change from steam trains (which needed water at regular intervals to fuel the steam) to diesel engines.
Truckee Donner Public Utility District held the first board meeting of the year on Jan. 15, which was the first meeting since the November election. Directors Courtney Murrell and Steve Randall joined the board as newly-elected members, while director Jeff Bender won re-election to his seat. Director Christa Finn was elected board president by her fellow directors, and director Tony Laliotis was elected board vice president.
The Tahoe Forest Health District announced the appointment of new President & CEO Anna Roth this week following an extended search. Roth is scheduled to begin her new position in March. She is the first person to take over the position since previous CEO Harry Weis left the role in May, 2024, after being placed on administrative leave.
