The oldest local government office, the Tahoe City Public Utility District has provided water and sewer service to three-quarters of the homes and businesses in Placer and El Dorado counties since 1938. Its borders run from Emerald Bay to Dollar Hill, and along the Truckee River to the Nevada County line, amassing more than 31 square miles.
