When Auburn Mayor Bill Kirby was killed in a single-engine plane crash in April 2020, Alice Dowdin Calvillo was a natural choice to fill out the rest of Kirby’s term. In addition to her time on the Auburn City Council (1998-2005), the Planning Commission and the Historic Design Review Commission, Dowdin Calvillo also has a long history of public service at regional and state levels. She is the executive officer of the Sacramento County Civil Service Commission, and she held multiple positions in the administration of two governors: Arnold Schwarzenegger and Pete Wilson. On the county level, Dowdin Calvillo served on the Placer County Parks Commission. The Placer High School graduate’s family has been in the area since the late 1840s. And to add to her local credentials, she’s an enthusiastic trail runner and an advocate for Auburn as the Endurance Capital of the World.
First elected: November 1998. Appointed to a third term in May 2020, she successfully ran for a seat in November 2020.
