In 2023, Ramon Yepez became the first Latino in Lodi’s 117-year history to serve on the City Council. Yepez was appointed by the council to replace the departed Shakir Khan, who was charged with counts of voter fraud. Yepez previously ran unsuccessfully for City Council in 2020 and for the Area 5 trustee seat on the Lodi Unified Board of Education in 2018.
