The City Council is composed of a mayor and four councilmembers, elected at large by the citizens of Atascadero. The mayor serves a two-year term, and councilmembers serve four-year overlapping terms. The mayor presides over the meetings and performs other ceremonial duties. The council is responsible for the enactment of all programs, policies and services of the city.
Council meetings are open to the public. Copies of the staff reports or other documentation relating to each item of business referred to on the agenda are on file in the office of the City Clerk and are available for public inspection at City Hall (6500 Palma Ave, Atascadero) or online.
