Youth United for Community Action is run by young people of color as a platform to voice their concerns and beliefs, empower themselves, and work on environmental and social justice issues.

Established in 1994 by a small group of young people of color, YUCA is a safe space for youth to fight for environmental and social change in the Bay Area. Members believe that through grassroots community organizing efforts, there will be systemic change in the right direction. More than 150 low-income youth of color have been trained as organizers with leadership positions, and 650 more are actively involved in the community.

Currently, the group focuses on these activities:

  • Developing Leaders: Providing low-income youth with opportunities to define their own needs, determine their vision, and implement their beliefs.
  • Organizing the Community: Supporting social change and improving local schools.
  • Taking Action: Organizing marches and rallies.
