The Food Empowerment Project provides education on sustainable nutrition. This food justice nonprofit organization promotes veganism, fights for farm workers’ rights, and advocates for individuals who lack access to healthy food.

The organization supports healthy food choices that “reflect a more compassionate society by spotlighting the abuse of animals on farms, the depletion of natural resources, unfair working conditions for produce workers, and unavailability of healthy foods in low-income areas.” The team envisions a food system free from the exploitation of humans.

To expand access to healthy food for low-income families, the Food Empowerment Project campaigns against companies that practice discriminatory policies. The organization also promotes farmers markets for fresher and healthier groceries. To help residents find their nearest farmers market, Food Empowerment Project maintains an online searchable database. Those who are eligible for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) can receive a 50 percent discount when purchasing fresh produce.
