League of Women Voters is a civic organization that is dedicated to helping citizens exercise their right to vote and encouraging them to take a larger role in public affairs.

The organization was founded in 1920 to support the new women’s suffrage rights. The group began as a “mighty political experiment” to help newly enfranchised women exercise their civic responsibilities. The group’s mission is to empower voters and defend democracy so that every citizen has confidence in the electoral process.

The Leagues of Women Voters of Santa Clara County formed a county council, call the Council of the Leagues of Women Voters of Santa Clara County. It is composed of five local leagues:

League of Women Voters of Cupertino/Sunnyvale covers the cities of Cupertino and Sunnyvale.

League of Women Voters of Los Altos-Mountain View Area covers the cities of Los Altos and Mountain View and the town of Los Altos Hills.

League of Women Voters of Palo Alto covers the city of Palo Alto.

League of Women Voters of Southwest Santa Clara Valley covers the cities of Campbell, Monte Sereno and Saratoga and the town of Los Gatos.
