Bay Area Wilderness Training gives students access to outdoor experiences with the goal of fostering environmental leaders who reflect the diversity within their local community.
Bay Area Wilderness Training values are social justice, environmental stewardship, and community empowerment, and its core mission is to help students participate in outdoor activities. The organization believes that experiencing nature at its fullest will help dismantle racism, sexism, classism, and other forms of oppression.
Currently, Bay Area Wilderness Training offers frontcountry, wilderness, hiking, snowshoe, camping and other outdoor activities. It also provides gear rentals for individuals who like to explore by themselves.
During the global COVID-19 pandemic, Bay Area Wilderness Training has offered virtual sessions on such topics as outdoor trip planning and Leave No Trace ethnics. And the website offers resources and recommendations on outdoor explorations.
