Up to 15 students in grades 8 through 12 can serve a one-year term on the Monte Sereno Youth Commission. Commissioners are selectively appointed by the City Council in May/June of each year. All youth commissioners must be residents of Monte Sereno. Youth Commission meetings are open to the public. Some of the Youth Commission's accomplishments in recent years, among many projects, include developing a "Keep Kids Alive, Drive 25" campaign to encourage drivers to obey the speed limit on residential streets; co-authoring an ordinance to ban smoking on city property; co-organizing a hygiene kit drive for 67 students in need; and co-hosting the annual city picnic. Youth Commissioners also frequently volunteer at local organizations.
Meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month in the Monte Sereno Council Chambers, 18041 Saratoga-Los Gatos Road.
