Longevity is certainly something Donna Lind can brag about. She moved to Scotts Valley in 1980, and she spent four decades serving with the Scotts Valley Police Department before she retired. And right after that, in 2008, she was elected to City Council, where she’s now serving her fourth term. “I’ve been through some challenges and up until now I would say the [Loma Prieta] Earthquake was the worst,” she told Good Times. “But between Covid-19 and the devastating fires … everyone in the county has been touched by loss.”
First elected: 2008
Day job: Retired after a career in law enforcement
Alma mater: San Jose State University (studied criminal justice/law enforcement administration)
Other positions held: President, Fallen Officer Foundation (2006-present); vice president, Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors (2006-2015)
Notable quote: “The biggest challenge the next five years will be to support business. We understand many will not survive devastation from the pandemic. We need to continue to partner with local business assisting them with funding and resources, continue working with them to adjust to the changes required due to the pandemic.” (Source: MyScottsValley.com)

Scotts Valley’s future isn’t something that just happens—we build it with the choices we make today. That’s why city leadership—including the Council, department heads and key community stakeholders—came together in February for a two-day Strategic Planning Workshop to map out priorities for the next two years.
Planning for the two-day Scotts Valley Art, Wine & Beer Festival, scheduled for Aug. 16-17, was about to be derailed when discussions between the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce and the City got back on track with the help of Councilmember Steve Clark, who was elected to his first term in November.
As a small city operating with only 6.5% of its residents’ property tax revenue, Scotts Valley faces significant financial challenges in providing essential services. However, thanks to the support of our community, we are moving forward with renewed optimism.
