The Truckee-Donner Historical Society was founded in 1968 to preserve the history of the Truckee-Donner area.

The society operates the Old Jail Museum, built in 1875 located at corner of Jibboom and Spring streets in downtown Truckee and the Joseph Research Library at 10115 Donner Trail Rd in Truckee.
