The Rails-to-Trails Conservancy is the country’s largest rail trail organization, serving as a national voice for the development of recreational trails.

RTC has dedicated programs focused on urban rail trails and trail systems. A current program is the Great American Rail-Trail, which extends through 12 states and the District of Columbia. Through economic opportunities and recreational benefits, the trail system will serve nearly 50 million people.

Rails-to-Trails supports its mission in the following ways:

  • Advocating on Capitol Hill and to state legislatures.
  • Mobilizing trail supporters to work in their communities.
  • Partnering with like-minded organizations.
  • Raising funds to help develop regional trails.
  • Preserving former railroad corridors.
  • Speaking for transformation.
