The Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus is a choir that has been integral to the LGTBQ+ community since the 1980s.

The Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus was founded in 1984 under the name Sacramento Men’s Chorus. It was designed to be a community support to gay men during the height of the AIDS epidemic, and continues today as an important component of the local LGBTQ+ community. Although it started with 35 members, it has now grown to 90 and includes everyone; the membership is diverse, including the gay community and beyond.

SGMC’s season begins in August each year and runs through the following July. The chorus mounts two major productions—a winter holiday show and a spring show—and performs at various local community benefit events, showcasing the voice of Sacramento. Through their performances and also by partnering with other groups and nonprofits in the region, the chorus has a dream of everyone being accepted—including the region's most marginalized members—working and living alongside each other both peacefully and artistically.
