VOLUNTEER DONATE

Meals on Wheels Yolo County has been providing seniors with a hot meal daily for more than 40 years.

Meals on Wheels Yolo County comprises four congregate meal sites and 27 home delivery routes throughout the county. Though the organization has undergone several name and mission evolutions, the nonprofit currently aims to “nourish and enrich” Yolo County’s residents, with an emphasis on those age 60 and older.

The organization’s main mission is to promote health, well-being and independence for seniors through hot meals. In its efforts, the central kitchen staff starts work weekdays at 4 a.m. to prepare 350-400 lunches; and from there, the hot food is delivered to sites throughout the county, with about two-thirs packed for home delivery by volunteers and the rest allocated to four senior centers, which promote socialization and community bonding.

Since 1993, the volunteer-based group Friends of Meals on Wheels has supported Meals on Wheels Yolo County through fundraising, community awareness and volunteer outreach. Community members are encouraged to support the organization, as Meals on Wheels Yolo County is dependent on its volunteers’ generous donations of time and the community’s financial support.
