<p>The original Broadway cast recording—nominated for a Grammy Award—remains a fan favorite, with music by Canadian husband-and-wife duo Irene Sankoff and David Hein. Their trip to Gander for the 10th anniversary of 9/11 inspired them to craft a musical that breaks traditional rules by weaving together the equally important stories of the stranded travelers and the townspeople who opened their hearts and homes.</p>

<p>Colvin, best known for her hit “Sunny Came Home,” has built a career defined by emotional depth and musical authenticity. Her 1989 debut album, <em>Steady On</em>, won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album, marking the beginning of a distinguished career spanning over three decades. </p>

In 2016, Colvin’s contributions to the singer-songwriter genre were honored with the Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Trailblazer Award, presented by Bonnie Raitt, who called Colvin “one of the best singers I’ve ever heard” and “a truly gifted and deep songwriter.”</p>
<p>Sharing the stage is KT Tunstall, whose breakout 2004 album <em>Eye to the Telescope</em> introduced the world to hits like “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” and “Suddenly I See.” Known for her dynamic performances, Tunstall has built a reputation for blending introspective folk with propulsive rock. Her pioneering use of looping technology adds a unique element to her live shows, making each performance an immersive experience. In recent years, Tunstall has explored new creative directions through a trilogy of albums focused on themes of soul, body, and mind. This series—<em>KIN</em> (2016), <em>WAX </em>(2018), and <em>NUT</em> (2022)—further cemented her status as an innovative and versatile songwriter. Beyond the stage, Tunstall has also moved into musical theater, currently composing songs for the stage adaptation of the 1995 cult-classic film <em>Clueless</em>.</p>

<p>April 2024 marks 31 years since Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s emergence on the music scene. Since its formation in Ventura, California, the band has become a staple of the swing revival, performing over 150 shows a year and selling more than two million albums.</p>
<p>Founded by lead vocalist and guitarist <strong>Scotty Morris</strong> and drummer <strong>Kurt Sodergren</strong>, the band’s vibrant blend of jazz, swing, and Dixieland draws from American musical traditions while remaining fresh and contemporary. Early on, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy made a name for itself with a residency at Los Angeles’ Derby nightclub, reminding audiences during the height of the grunge era that “it was still cool to swing.”</p>

<p>The band’s lineup includes original members Morris and Sodergren, along with <strong>Dirk Shumaker</strong> (double bass), <strong>Andy Rowley</strong> (baritone sax), <strong>Glen “The Kid” Marhevka</strong> (trumpet), <strong>Karl Hunter</strong> (saxophone and clarinet), and <strong>Joshua Levy</strong>(piano). Known for high-energy performances, the group has introduced swing to a new generation while honoring the genre’s legacy.</p>
<p>Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s breakout moment came with an appearance in the 1996 cult film <em>Swingers</em>, alongside Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau. The band has since been featured in TV shows like <em>Friends</em> and <em>So You Think You Can Dance </em>and performed at events ranging from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to the Super Bowl XXXIII Halftime Show.</p>
<p>On Nov. 2, The Fabulous Thunderbirds will bring their signature blend of blues, R&B, and rock to the Harris Center stage. For over 30 years, the group has delivered hits like “Tuff Enuff” and “Wrap It Up,” which defined its sound and earned the band a loyal following.</p>
<p>Fronted by co-founder <strong>Kim Wilson</strong>, the band has evolved from its blues roots into a versatile, high-energy act. “We’re an American music band,” Wilson says. “We started as a straight blues band, but now we incorporate a variety of styles.”</p>
<p>Wilson, a revered harmonica player, was mentored by blues legend Muddy Waters, who once called him his favorite harmonica player. Wilson’s influences include Little Walter and B.B. King, shaping his musical style over the years. After forming the T-Birds with guitarist Jimmie Vaughan in Austin, Texas, the band released its debut album in 1979, followed by a string of hits, including the top-40 single “Tuff Enuff.”</p>

![Image for display with article titled Folsom Prison Officials Investigating Saturday Morning Homicide](<p>California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officials are investigating the Saturday morning death of an incarcerated person at <a href="https://www.cdcr.ca.gov/facility-locator/sac/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">California State Prison, Sacramento</a> (SAC) as a homicide.</p>
<p>At 3:55 a.m., staff responded to an alarm and approached a cell occupied by Kyle Cooper and Rahshan Mackey. Responding officers observed Cooper unresponsive in his cell, with head trauma and immediately called for medical assistance and 911.</p>
<p>According to a press release from the California Department of Corrections Saturday afternoon saving measures were initiated and Cooper was transported to an outside hospital for a higher level of care. He was pronounced deceased at 5:40 a.m. by a hospital doctor.</p>
<p>Mackey has been placed in restricted housing pending an investigation by SAC Investigative Services Unit and the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. The Office of the Inspector General was notified, and the Sacramento County Coroner will determine Cooper’s official cause of death.</p>
<p>Cooper, 50, was most recently received from Sacramento County on Aug. 11, 2015, sentenced to 37 years for three counts of second-degree robbery with enhancement of use of firearm as a second striker and possessing/owning a firearm by a felon or addict as a second striker.</p>
<p>Mackey, 38, was received from Alameda County on March 26, 2021, to sentenced to 23 years for voluntary manslaughter with an enhancement for personal use of a dangerous or deadly weapon as a second striker.</p>
<p>While incarcerated, he was sentenced to two years and eight months by Sacramento County on Jan. 26, 2024, for assault by a prisoner with a deadly weapon/instrument as a second striker, an in-prison offense.</p>
<p>Located in Folsom, SAC opened in 1986 and houses more than 2,100 medium-, maximum- and high-security incarcerated persons. SAC offers academic classes and vocational programs and employs approximately 1,500 people.</p>

 has announced that the light rail construction project in the Folsom area will be extended into the month of November, resulting in ongoing service disruptions and bus bridges for local commuters. </p>
<p>The construction, which began in January as part of SacRT’s Folsom 15-Minute Light Service Project, is focused on adding a passing track at the Glenn/Robert G. Holderness Station. Once complete, the addition will allow SacRT to offer 15-minute light rail service at all Folsom area stations, including Hazel, Iron Point, Glenn/Robert G. Holderness, and Historic Folsom.</p>
<p>Despite progress, SacRT has confirmed that the construction timeline has been extended, leading to continued disruptions for passengers. Riders can expect bus bridges between Iron Point and Historic Folsom stations to remain in place throughout November. Additionally, extended bus bridges will occur during three weekends in November between the Cordova Town Center and Historic Folsom stations. These bus bridges are scheduled for the weekends of November 2-3, November 9-10, and November 16-17, 2024, to allow for track testing and other final construction work.</p>
<p>Throughout the construction period, shuttle buses will replace light rail service between Iron Point and Historic Folsom stations, operating every 30 minutes. Shuttle buses will pick up and drop off passengers at designated locations near each station. At Iron Point Station, buses will stop at the upper driveway near the stairs. At Glenn/Robert G. Holderness Station, shuttle service will be available next to the platform, and at Historic Folsom Station, buses will pick up passengers from the stop on Reading Street across from the parking garage.</p>
<p><strong>New bus bridge schedule detailed </strong></p>
<p>SacRT has released a detailed bus bridge schedule to accommodate riders. On weekdays, the first bus departs from Iron Point Station at 4:41 a.m., with the last bus leaving at 11:11 p.m. From Historic Folsom Station, the first bus departs at 5 a.m., and the last leaves at 11:30 p.m. </p>
<p>On Saturdays, the first bus from Cordova Town Center Station departs at 5:28 a.m., with service continuing until 11:30 p.m. Buses from Historic Folsom on Saturdays begin at 7:30 a.m. and also run until 11:30 p.m. Sunday service starts later, with the first bus from Cordova Town Center at 5:28 a.m., and the last at 9:28 p.m. The first bus from Historic Folsom departs at 10 a.m., and runs until 9:30 p.m.</p>

<p><strong>Traffic impacts, re-openings</strong></p>
<p>In addition to public transit disruptions, traffic impacts are also in place along Folsom Boulevard. Lane closures are currently affecting the stretch between Bidwell Street and Parkshore Drive. The two northbound lanes closest to the train tracks are closed, with traffic redirected into the adjacent southbound lanes, reducing the road to one lane in both directions. To ensure safety, the speed limit has been reduced to 35 mph. Glenn Drive between Folsom Boulevard and Coolridge Drive, which had also been affected, is expected to reopen by October 20</p>
<p>Motorists are encouraged to consider alternate routes and adjust travel schedules to avoid congestion. These lane closures will remain in effect seven days a week until construction is completed. SacRT advises both riders and drivers to stay updated, as the schedule may change due to weather or other factors.</p>
<p>The Folsom 15-Minute Light Service Project is part of SacRT’s broader initiative aimed to enhance public transportation in the region. The addition of the passing track at Glenn/Robert G. Holderness Station will allow for faster and more frequent light rail service, significantly reducing wait times for commuters. However, the extended construction timeline has caused challenges for both transit users and motorists in the Folsom area, according to SacRT.</p>
<p>SacRT encourages riders to frequently check their website for updates on service disruptions, schedule changes, and lane closures. While the project is expected to bring long-term benefits, commuters should be prepared for ongoing delays and adjustments through November.
