The jury delivered the verdict on Tuesday, bringing some closure to a tragic event that has deeply impacted the community.<strong></strong></p>
<p>The incident occurred on September 17, 2018, at a Pep Boys auto shop in Rancho Cordova. Paris had gone to the store with his ex-girlfriend and became agitated, knocking items off shelves and threatening to kill everyone inside, according to prosecutors. An employee called law enforcement, and Deputies Mark Stasyuk and Julie Robertson responded to the disturbance.</p>
<p>Upon their arrival, Paris began shooting. He shot Stasyuk in the torso as the deputy stumbled out of the store. Paris then shot Stasyuk in the head, killing him. Deputy Robertson was also shot in the arm but managed to return fire. A clerk at the store was injured in the upper back during the incident but survived.</p>
<p>Paris fled the scene and was eventually apprehended after a firefight with other deputies on Folsom Boulevard. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds before being taken into custody.</p>
<p>On Tuesday, the jury found Paris guilty of first-degree murder with the special circumstance of killing a peace officer and using a gun to cause the death. He was also convicted of attempted murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Paris will be sentenced on August 19, 2024.</p>
<p>“We stand with Deputy Mark Stasyuk’s family and Deputy Julie Robertson and her family,” Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho said in a statement. “With today’s verdict, we are one step closer to justice.”</p>
<p>Sgt. Amar Gandhi, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s office, emphasized that Stasyuk’s dedication to serving the community will never be forgotten. “Today’s verdict brings a measure of justice to his memory and solace to his loved ones, our agencies, and our entire community. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in this case, from the investigators to the prosecutors, for their unwavering commitment to seeking justice.”</p>
<p>The Rancho Cordova Police Department also expressed their gratitude for the conviction, highlighting Deputy Stasyuk’s bravery and service. “His dedication, bravery, and service will never be forgotten, and today’s verdict ensures that the perpetrator is held accountable for this senseless act. Deputy Stasyuk’s legacy will continue to inspire us as we honor his sacrifice by upholding the law and protecting our community with the same bravery and dedication he exemplified,” the department said in a statement following Tuesday’s verdict. </p>
