Angeligue Ashby first assumed office as city councilmember of District 1 in Sacramento November 4, 2014. She ran for reelection and won with 77.3 percent of the vote on June 5, 2018, beating a field that included Gabriell Garcia, Edward Lewis, and Don Niel Sim. District 1 includes the neighborhoods of Alkali Flats, Downtown, Richards Boulevard, South Natomas, Northgate and North Natomas. A map of District 1 is pictured here. 


Public safety is a top concern for Councilmember Ashby. On June 25, 2020, Ashby held a press conference with former councilmember Larry Carr to present changes to the city's Use of Force Policy. On her website, she states, “The proposed changes will increase transparency and accountability as we continue to build trust between the community and the police department.”
