That political activism drove him to run in 2016 for Santa Clara City Council and then for Santa Clara mayor in 2018. He was finally successful in his third run in 2020, after a couple years on the Planning Commission. Becker talked about his priorities with Silicon Valley Voice: “The most critical and immediate challenges we face are traffic and delivering affordable housing that is actually affordable. … Santa Clara at its heart is a blue collar town and we need programs that make it possible for all of us to thrive here.”
