The Morro Bay Planning Commission is one of five appointed bodies that advises the City Council. The function of the Planning Commission is to develop a general plan and recommend its adoption by the City Council. The commission also maintains the general plan after its adoption by the council, develops specific plans to implement it, and periodically reviews the city’s capital improvement program for recommendations to the council.
The Planning Commission has five voting members appointed by councilmembers. Commission meetings are held in the Veterans' Memorial Building and are open to the public.
