“Discover Downtown Hollister”—that’s an order from the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau. Since, 1921, this organization made up of local business people has represented commercial interests, including local retailers, restaurants, service providers, agricultural companies, individuals and nonprofits with major events and a forum for local businesses to “network, grow and prosper.”
The San Benito County Chamber of Commerce has been providing local businesses and the community with resources and connections since 1921. At its beginning, it had 253 members paying a dollar each month to belong. When you start out with a base membership of over 200, you can only go up from there, and that is exactly what the Chamber has done. Today, it represents shop owners, restauranteurs, nonprofits, architects, service workers and professional individuals.
San Benito County is a desirable community to live in, as it’s located near the financially lucrative Silicon Valley and is just 30 minutes from Monterey’s coastline. There’s a thriving city to work in, and Pinnacles National Park is nearby when you’re ready to get away from it all. The chamber works hard to bring awareness to the high quality of residential life as well as tourism opportunities throughout the region. It regularly distributes visitor bags with information on local businesses and events, and also provides business services such as bulk mailing.
As a member of the Chamber, you will also discover many events to get involved with including lunch wth local leaders, educational seminars, and holiday socials. Even if you aren’t a business owner or a member of the Chamber, chances are you are still hearing from them. They are instrumental in planning the city calendar, putting on community holiday events, and keeping many of your favorite retailers afloat.
The San Benito County Chamber of Commerce announces that Shawn Herrera is transitioning as Chair of the Board, a role he has arduously led since 2020. In his place, Maria Cid has been appointed as the new Chair of the Board, bringing a fresh perspective and new ideas.
The 103rd annual awards dinner celebrating Cathy Alameda, Vince Luna and the businesses of the year is scheduled for Sept. 14.
The San Benito County Chamber of Commerce honored the people, businesses and organizations who work to support their community in a variety of ways.
Marilyn Ferreria and George Nava were selected as the 2022 Woman and Man of the Year, topping a short list of winners who will be honored Nov. 12.
