Sacramento Institute for Music & the Arts

Sacramento Institute for Music & the Arts exists to change lives and connect the community through high-quality, accessible music and arts education and programming.

Sacramento Institute for Music & the Arts partners with local organizations and professional musicians, including the Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera. Students are able to learn from these world-class professionals, both through attending performances and performing onstage through the Carnegie Hall Link Up Program.

The institute was founded as a 501 (c)(3) organization in 2013 with the goal of expanding string progams and connecting more students in the community. It now offers string classes in five area schools, and provides string instruction to more than 100 students each year. Students are eligible to attend not only classes but also worskshops and live performances.

​Research has continually shown the positive effects of music education. Learning to play a musical instrument can improve brain function, and it also promotes teamwork and many more skills that are beneficial to children.

The institute also hopes to support local arts organizations by connecting them with new audience members who have gained an appreciation for the arts by attending the classes it offers throughout the region.
