Sacramento Community Land Trust fights displacement and works to preserve and improve marginalized neighborhoods in Sacramento.
The Land Trust’s focus is on equitable community development in regions of Sacramento that face deterioration, discrimination, and displacement. The organization defines several demographic groups as “historically discriminated,” including Native American, Southeast Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Black, Arab/Middle Eastern, refugee and immigrant communities, LGBTQIA individuals, low-income residents, people with disabilities, formerly incarcerated individuals, and those who are unhoused or at risk of becoming homeless.
SacCLT has compiled evidence that members of these marginalized populations tend to have the biggest battles when it comes to neighborhood preservation and future opportunities. They work to educate both members of these communities and the population at large to recruit help, foster policy changes, and look for funding opportunities.
The organization’s ultimate goal? Housing equity. By leveling the playing field for everyone, regardless of income level or socioeconomic background, SacCLT hopes to provide more opportunties for stable housing, home ownership, and financial stability.
