The California Coalition for Rural Housing exists to ensure affordable housing options for low-income families and those living in rural areas.

The CCRH was founded in 1976 and is considered to be the oldest low-income housing coalition in the country. The organization participates in advocacy, research, and organizing events and projects to ensure improvements to rural housing and to make it more accessible to all. CCRH works to strengthen nonprofit and public sector capacity to provide such housing.

CCRH is composed of members that include community-based nonprofits, housing developers, local activists, and government officials. Its mission statement encompasses four goals:

• To educate and encourage public support on a wide array of housing issues, focusing efforts to promote and preserve affordable housing in rural California.

• To assert the importance of developing and preserving safe, healthy, and adequate housing as an integral part of building sustainable rural communities.

• To ensure quality of life for rural families and their neighborhoods through smart growth land use principles.

• To actively participate at all levels of government to achieve policies for the production and preservation of affordable housing.

CCRH is also home to a cultural diversity mentorship program, an American Indian Community Development program, and also assists with asset building, technical assistance, policy advocacy, and research.
