VOLUNTEER DONATE

The Tahoe Rim Trail Association emerged 40 years ago to help connect people to Big Blue’s amazing views, and it’s thanks to this group that there’s a way to hike 165 miles around Lake Tahoe.

Working in conjunction with the U.S. Forest Service, thousands of volunteers spent 20 years to completely build out the trekkable loop, which officially “opened” in 2001. Since then, the association has maintained, improved, and even expanded the trail to stretch across more than 200 miles.

The Tahoe Rim Trail Association gauges that around 400,000 people hike portions of the Tahoe Rim Trail in any given year, and therefore they continue to enhance the trail system for all to enjoy. Hundreds of volunteers make this happen by attending weekly trail building events and participating in multi-day backcountry work camps.
