Cosumnes Community Services District provides emergency medical, fire protection, parks and recreation services to more than 205,000 residents in a 157-square-mile area of south Sacramento County that encompasses the municipalities of Elk Grove and Galt. The district’s history dates back 127 years to the establishment of three entities—the Elk Grove Fire Protection District (1893), the Galt Fire Protection District (1921), and the Elk Grove Recreation and Park District (1936)—that now are part of this district, which takes its name from the nearby Cosumnes River.
