As a retired battalion chief for emergency medical services with the Cosumnes Fire Department, Peter Sakaris served the communities of Elk Grove and Galt for almost 30 years. In 2022 he sought out another role when he ran for the Division 2 seat on the Cosumnes Community Services District Board of Directors. A first-generation American born to Greek immigrants, Sakaris has lived in Elk Grove for more than two decades and participates in the Lakeside Homeowner’s Association. He is a member of St. Katherine’s Greek Orthodox Church in Elk Grove.
Sakaris told the Elk Grove Citizen that his top campaign issue is reducing the time that paramedics have to wait before the patients they bring to the emergency center are admitted for treatment. He also wants to help the fire department cut its response time by adding fire stations, personnel and equipment.
Notable quote: “If you’re spending an hour at the hospital, that’s one hour that ambulance isn’t available for service within the community—that needs to be resolved.” (Source: Elk Grove Citizen, Sept. 2, 2022)
