The Board consists of five regular members and three alternates. Members are appointed by the City Council. They must be any of the following: architect, engineer (civil, structural, mechanical, or electrical), general building contractor, engineering contractor, electrician, plumber, mechanical or sheet metal contractor, non jurisdictional building inspector or fire inspector. Alternates are two disabled access specialist and one energy conservation specialist.
Meetings are held annually to appoint the chair and vice chair, and then as needed if appeals are received.
