In his campaign statement prior to winning the office of clerk-recorder for San Benito County, Francisco Diaz wrote that he grew up in a working-class immigrant family. “My father was a carpet cleaner, who single handedly put his wife and three sons through college. My mother became the owner of a small business, and everyone pitched in on the family business growing up. From an early age, I grew up with a set of values centered on the importance of hard work and determination. At the age of 14, I filed my first tax return from a summer working in construction.” After ten years of service for San Benito County as a senior deputy, staff analyst and most recently the assistant county clerk-recorder, Diaz took the next step to run for public office. He holds a master’s degree in public administration and is nationally certified as an elections registration administrator.
