The Fire Department is charged with protecting the residents of Watsonville. The Operations Division responds to calls for service, maintains equipment and two stations, provides public education, and develops target hazard pre-incident plans. The Operations Division also responds to incidents both in the city and surrounding areas as well as out of county responses during major events.

The Fire Prevention Division is responsible for administering and enforcing the Fire Code, developing and implementing hazard mitigation, monitoring and overseeing the target hazard program, coordinating the Fireworks Task Force, as well as Title 19 fire inspections, investigation oversight, and overseeing the self-inspection program for low-hazard businesses within the city.
