Animal Place serves as a safe place for approximately 400 farm animals from all throughout Nevada County.

Animal Place is one of the region’s original animal sanctuaries, founded in 1989. Rescued farm animals live out peaceful days on 600 acres at their Grass Valley location. Animal Place offers both permanent homes, as well as an adoption center located in Petaluma for animals that have been rehabilitated and are ready for new homes.

Animal Place doesn’t just rescue animals in need—it also provides education and awareness to prevent the harm and neglect of animals in the future. The sanctuary is open to visitors, including school groups and volunteer trainings. You can even be an intern at Animal Place if you hope to learn more and make a difference in the lives of animals in the farming industry.

Animal Place promotes a vegan lifestyle, and rescues a wide variety of animal breeds from cows to chickens. Hundreds of animals are rescued each year, and Animal Place has been continually recognized as one of the oldest and most established rescues in the nation.
