The North Tahoe Community Alliance manages visitations to North Tahoe, supporting local businesses and their economic stability and growth.
The NTCA was originally established in 1954 under the name North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce as a voice for businesses in the North Lake Tahoe region. Up until 2021, its primary role was destination marketing and serving as the chamber of commerce, but in 2022 that changed. Now, the NTCA’s three areas of focus are encouraging responsible travel during off-peak seasons, educating the public on good stewardship, and addressing any and all solutions facing visitors, residents, and business owners.
The organization’s Lake Tahoe Destination Stewardship Plan contains 32 action steps rooted in four key ideas and outlines how the organization will promote responsible travel. NTCA also has visitors commit to the Traveler Responsibility Pledge and pays Stewardship Ambassadors to encourage responsible tourism.
The NTCA fosters economic growth in North Tahoe by prompting tourists and visitors to support local businesses and attend local events, including the Alpenglow Speaker Series, Snowfest, the Great Ski Race, and the Lake Tahoe Paddle Racing Series. During the off seasons, NTCA also hosts events like the Winter WonderGrass and the Broken Arrow Skyrace to keep the economy stable year-round.
The organization has also been advocating and finding solutions to several transportation, housing, and workforce development challenges. Proposed solutions include the expansion of TART Connect and increased support for other micro-transit services, Placement, and the Dollar Creek Housing Project. The organization was also involved in actively opposing Proposed Bill SB 584, which would impose a tax on occupancies of short-term rentals in California.
