VOLUNTEER DONATE
HICAP provides Medicare advocacy and education to patients in Northern and Central California counties.
HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program) of Northern California provides free, unbiased and confidential Medicare counseling and advocacy services in a variety of regions, including the following counties:
Managed by Legal Services of California, HICAP provides counselors who are registered with the California Department of Aging. The counselors are all volunteer and can answer questions and guide clients through information on Medicare rights and benefits. This service includes navigating appeals for those who have been denied coverage, discovering potential supplemental insurance, and understanding Medicare Advantage plans. Counselors are also knowledgeable about employee and retiree coverage and provide community education.
HICAP regularly participates in community health and senior fairs, and produces various public service announcements advertising both HICAP services and Medicare information in general.
The HICAP website is also a hub of resources, notifying visitors of upcoming open enrollment periods, explaining how to get a consultation with a counselor, and easily laying out all they have to offer the community. There is also information about volunteering; counselors are trained through HICAP and then graduate into active volunteer hours helping seniors find their way to affordable, safe healthcare options.
