Biking for a Better World supports the Truckee Bike Park, helping to build new features and maintain the trails.

It’s no secret that Lake Tahoe is a haven for outdoor adventure enthusiasts, drawing groups of passionate locals together to figure out how to make their favorite sports more accessible while preserving the natural environment around them. In the case of Biking for a Better World, its mission is to promote health and wellness through biking and strengthening trail systems, youth programs, and hosting local cycling events to bring awareness and make the sport of cycling available to everyone.

Biking for a Better World was integral in building and maintaining the beloved Truckee Bike Park—a 30,000-square-foot pump track and jump zones that cater to all ages and abilities—which now sees more than 50,000 visits per year. The best part is that it’s open seven days a week from dawn until dusk in the summer months and it’s free to access.

The group also recently introduced its “Next Level” skill building program with bi-weekly clinics hosted in the summer teaching riders biking safety, trail etiquette, and improving core competencies in pumping, dropping into a jump, cadence, braking, and more. Kids and adults are welcome to join the summer clinics for a small fee.

Image for display with article titled Truckee Bike Park Concession Agreement Raises Questions About Oversight, Communication, and Future of Public-Private Partnerships

A well-established partnership between the Truckee-Donner Recreation and Park District (TDRPD) and local nonprofit Biking for a Better World (BBW) is under review after the district's General Manager opted not to renew BBW's Concession Agreement beyond its May 1, 2025 expiration. The decision, which caught many community members by surprise, has prompted a formal appeal by BBW and sparked a broader discussion about roles, responsibilities, and governance at the Truckee Bike Park.
