Elk Grove Historical Society

The Elk Grove Historical Society preserves the city’s past with the goal of educating and passing on its rich history to future generations.

The Elk Grove Historical Society preserves the past while looking toward the future by sharing the history and heritage of Elk Grove with current visitors to its park. Heritage Park is located at 9941 East Stockton Blvd. and is free for anyone to come visit every first Saturday of the month from February to October, noon to 4 p.m. The park closes in November to prepare for the historical society’s Old Fashioned Christmas event.

At the park, the Elk Grove Historical Society has acquired and preserved the following:

• The 1850 Elk Grove House & Stage Stop Museum
• The 1853 Foulks House Museum
• The 1912 San Joaquin Township Justice Court and Jail Museum
• A blacksmith shop with blacksmith statue
• Dennis Buscher Plaza
• Several other items, such as a covered wagon, historic bells, etc.

The Historical Society also hosts eight history presentations per year, usually on the third Monday evening of the month at the Elk Grove Presbyterian Church. Find dates and information on current speakers on the group’s Facebook page or website.
