Loaves & Fishes is a soup kitchen and food distribution center. Using volunteers and donated food, the nonprofit serve nutritious meals to the hungry.
A major homeless service provider in Sacramento, Loaves & Fishes provides warm meals, essential survival supplies and services for nearly 1,000 adults and children daily. To keep its services barrier-free, Loaves & Fishes does not solicit or accept government funds and is supported by individual and private donations.
The group started out locally in 1983; services grew from midday meals to include breakfast, showers, laundry, a school for homeless children, mental health counseling, legal advice, and on-site resources from community partners.
