916 Ink is an art-based creative writing organization that transforms and empowers young writers. It holds workshops that celebrate written language and “instill in children a sense of joy, wisdom, whimsy, and wonder with words.”

During 350 Sacramento’s Ode to Earth festival on Aug. 18, winners of a writing competition put on in partnership with 916 Ink were honored for their environmental-themed works of poetry.
Thousands of young people have experienced 916 Ink since the Sacramento nonprofit opened in 2011. They have all been writers — and almost all were under 18 years old. The organization encourages young writers to express themselves through stories and helps them to put those stories on paper.
