VOLUNTEER DONATE

Big Brother Big Sisters provides children facing adversity with strong, enduring, professionally supported mentorship. The organization believes that all children can achieve success when given the proper tools and resources—and volunteer mentors are among the most important of those resources.

Since 1958, the organization has delivered one-to-one mentoring in the Bay Area, providing community-based, site-based, and career-connected learning programs to help children develop higher aspirations. Mentors support students in building self-confidence, avoiding risky behaviors, and achieving educational success.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area serves nine counties—Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, Santa Clara, San Francisco, San Mateo, Solano, and Sonoma—and helps more than 2,000 children every year.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to create one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. Our vision is for all youth to reach their full potential.

Together we affirm that every person has the opportunity to reach their full potential. We are committed to creating and cultivating a safe environment where all individuals anc children feel respected and valued equally. We are committed to a nondiscriminatory and anti-racist approach and are committed to dismantling any inequities within our policies, systems, programs and services.

Services

We currently have one administrative office in Oakland, CA. However, we cover all 9 Bay Area counties. We provide one-to-one mentorship for Bay Area youth with volunteers. Each volunteer is interviewed and background checked to insure child safety.

History

For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes and monitors meaningful matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 – 18, in communities across the country to develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect.
