The San Jose Japanese American Citizen League serves local Japanese Americans through educational, civil rights, cultural and social programs.

Established in 1923 in San Jose as the American Loyalty League, the group in 1930 joined the recently formed Japanese American Citizens League, which grew to become the oldest, largest, and most experienced Asian American civil rights organization, with more than 10,000 members nationwide.

JACL offers:  

  • Advocacy: Promoting security, justice and human rights for Asian and Pacific Islander Americans.
  • Youth and Leadership: Providing scholarships, internships, community services and leadership development programs.
  • Education: Spreading current and past news regarding Japanese Americans.
  • Culture: Preserving Japanese American culture through traditional celebrations.
  • Community Building: Supporting Japantown and cooperating with other community organizations.
  • Social Activities: Offering fun and interactive community events.
