College of Adaptive Arts aims to pave a new and successful path for adults with disabilities. The San Jose-based nonprofit provides an “equitable, lifelong collegiate experience to adults with special needs who historically have not had access to college education.”

Founded in 2009, CAA opened its doors to offer creative and inspirational education for people with special needs. Recognizing people with disabilities as a rich pool of talent, the college envisioned a platform for people with disabilities to voice and showcase their abilities. This is an institution of higher education with a curriculum that emphasizes self-sufficiency and independence.

More than 100 students enroll in 40-plus course offerings each quarter, including the following:

  • Dance
  • TV/Film
  • Art
  • Music
  • Theatre
  • Health & Wellness
  • Communications
  • Science & Technology
  • Library Arts
  • Business

Learning takes place in and out of the classroom. With diverse topics covered, students can explore and cultivate their passion. Once students have finished their required units, CAA also offers a graduate program for further education.
