San Jose Youth Symphony gives young people a foundation for appreciating orchestral music throughout their lives. Programs help develop technical proficiency, musical knowledge and an emotional connection to music.

Since 1951, San Jose Symphony has provided unique musical fare to the community and musical education for children. The musicians of SJYS range in age from 8 to 20 and are chosen from more than 700 applications annually. The symphony performs as many as 12 distinct programs each year, including these:

  • Two full orchestras
  • Chamber orchestra
  • Two flute choirs
  • Two string ensembles
  • Jazz ensemble
  • Wind and saxophone ensembles
  • Percussion, harp and string ensembles

SJYS also offers music classes at local schools in San Jose through its Music Matters program and summer camps.
