VOLUNTEER

The South County Animal Rescue helps abandoned and surrendered animals in rural South Monterey County.

South County Aniamls Rescue was founded in 2016, and has since rescued more than 1,600 animals. The group also coordinates with shelter partners by taking in animals from them when space is available, and also helping to find foster homes. The mission of SCAR is to significantly reduce the number of homeless domestic animals in South County by providing rescue, adoption, awareness and education services.

Some of the specific services provided by SCAR include:

  • Dog and cat placement assistance
  • Free spay and neuter surgeries
  • Low-cost vaccinations throughout the county
  • Cat traps

SCAR is run completely by volunteers, and there are a lot of opportunities to get involved. From fundraising to vaccine drives, special events take a lot of manpower, and even a single hour can help. Drivers are also needed for trips to the vet and to foster homes. Other volunteer opportunities come up periodically, including animal leads, board positions, and more.
