UnChained’s mission is to provide California’s Central Coast youth with the opportunity for self-reflection and personal growth while training homeless dogs in need of adoption. Standing as a beacon of transformation on California’s Central Coast, UnChained guides at-risk youth and homeless dogs on a journey of mutual healing.
Founded in 2011, UnChained has been transforming lives by teaching at-risk youth to communicate with and rehabilitate dogs in need. Our journey, however, extends beyond mere training. It’s about uncovering empathy, redirecting lives, and creating lasting bonds. Our mission transcends the basics; it’s about embedding hope and charting a course toward a brighter, more caring future for our entire community.

Standing as a beacon of transformation on California's Central Coast, UnChained guides at-risk youth and homeless dogs on a journey of mutual healing.
Since our inception, UnChained has empowered over 380 youth who have trained over 180 dogs across the Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties with a 92% adoption rate within 30 days of graduating from our Canines Teaching Compassion program. This creates transformative relationships and brighter futures for the entire community. Our Youth Trainers report not just a marked increase in patience but also a significant boost in their self-worth. This transformative experience fosters deeper self-understanding and builds confidence, shaping them into more resilient and empathetic individuals. These personal advancements are crucial in their journey towards becoming more active, positive contributors to their communities.
