The Friends of the Truckee Library is dedicated to providing and promoting the Truckee Library through library advocacy, education, and fundraising.
Considered the “social fabric of communities,” libraries have long been known to be warm and welcoming places chock full of books and more recently computers and digital resources for people of all ages to enjoy. The Truckee Library alone sees more than 60,000 patrons a year (200 visitors per day) and has increased its number of programs and technology options—all free of charge to the public.
However, the Truckee Library needs more space! One thousand new patrons went to the Truckee Library in 2019 as librarians worked diligently to support parents homeschooling their children, veterans looking for new jobs, families filling out their visa applications, and students getting the books they need to pass their courses. Therefore, it has created what’s called the LibraryUP Luminary program to gather seed funding to help build a new, modern library that efficiently serves a greater number of people coming in.
“When the current library was built in 1975, we had a community of 2,000 people. We now serve a community of over 17,300 and we’re still utilizing the same 4,500-square-foot space with a maximum capacity of 54 people. We’re ready for a modern institution that will serve as a gateway to lifelong learning and will be the heart, soul, and intellectual hub of our community,” says Friends of the Truckee Library Board President Louise Zabriskie.

The Core Partners (Nevada County, Town of Truckee, and Friends of the Truckee Library) announced the successful completion of the first round of community input for the new Truckee Regional Library design.
As part of the ongoing efforts to enrich community involvement in the development of the new Truckee Regional Library, the Core Partners (Nevada County, Town of Truckee and Friends of the Truckee Library) are excited to announce a series of in-person engagement events throughout June and July, inviting residents to contribute their ideas and feedback toward the design of the new library.
Nevada County, the Town of Truckee, and Friends of the Truckee Library took another step forward toward building a new 20-000-square-foot Truckee Library facility at Truckee Regional Park.
